Originality

“Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”
C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

I owe a lot to C.S. Lewis. I have read most of his works and his imagination has influenced my imagination. Even as I have written an original novel, I know that my stories have roots in the writings of Lewis and other writers. At the same time, my work is indeed original because I have told truth in a new way. May God give each of us the gift of being ourselves as we seek to make a difference in this world.
